| OUR PSEUDO PRESIDENTIAL ELECTIONS |

Australia operates under a Westminster political system that we inherited from the British and wrote into our Constitution, as a result, come election time, we are asked to vote for a political PARTY to act as our government; unlike America. where they do actually vote for a President. Once in power that Party chooses which ministers it wishes to have in which positions of power as it governs. That is how we get our “Prime Minister”, a position which does not actually exist in the Constitution. It is the political Party which chooses our Prime Minister. They are not chosen by the people of Australia by election. This is the area where political Party’s want to have their cake and eat it too; because when they themselves use terms like the “Rudd Government”, “Gillard government” when speaking about their own Party in a space of one hour they are engaging in some sort of strange disconnect from their own policies. Julia Gillard did this on the day she assumed office as Prime Minister by claiming that the “Rudd Government” had lost it way and strayed from the path when she herself had been a significant part of the decision making process for the direction of the Party. In so doing, she allowed the Party to escape and avoid any responsibility for its past actions because she blamed them on the pseudo President.Julia Gillard continues to perpetuate the myth that Prime Ministers are elected by the people when she said in her maiden speech AFTER being put in the office by the Labor Party “If elected as Prime Minister I will re-prosecute the case for a carbon price at home and abroad.“ Is she saying she is not our Prime Minister? Do we have a Prime Minister? This is a prime example of an old Party giving itself a new coat of Paint, and of the strange disconnect that even she is experiencing from what just occurred. We repeat the point just to be clear. Australian voters DO NOT and have NEVER elected their Prime Minister. If that were indeed the case the whole nation just witnessed the Labor government acting illegally. It is a disconnect that continues to foster the myth that Prime Ministers are somehow in control of the government, and are ultimately responsible for the policy directions of the Party of which they only play a SMALL part. The manner in which Kevin Rudd was ruthlessly removed from office and Julia Gillard inserted clearly shows that this is not the case. The speed at which an Australian Prime Minister went from his front seat position to the back bench, to be replaced with someone possibly more compliant to big business was breath taking. It is a policy of the FREE AUSTRALIA PARTY to provide education about matters such as this so that we can help the voter make more informed choices come election time. It is important that inconsistencies are exposed because in this way voters can make more informed decisions.
