DEMOCRACY IS DEAD PDF Print E-mail

It is a sorry day for a democratic country when an incumbent Party can resort to such open deceit and underhanded tactics to try and maintain its hold on power as was seen on March 20, 2010 by the SA Labor Party.  Their decision to appear to the voting public as a political opponent to themselves in order to trick voters into changing their preferences so that they were favoured more highly is disgraceful; so disgraceful in fact that their so called “win” should be disqualified and the election done again.   This is the only way we can be assured that we have not been deceived by an untrustworthy unscrupulous Party that holds the voting public with such disdain as to act so insultingly.

This is the type of behaviour that one would expect to see in Afghanistan or Iraq, certainly not Australia.  The response of the electoral commissioner was only to say that the electoral Act of 1985 does not adequately capture the political “strategies” of 2010.  This action should not be minimised down to simply be viewed and judged as a “strategy”; it was an outright lie to the voting public.  Fraud is unlawful; identity theft is unlawful; as such the entire Labor Party ought to be held to account.  This is the Party that refused to implement an Independent Commission Against Corruption (ICAC), even after a very loud public demand to do so was heard.  The reason for such resistance is clear now.

Trust is paramount for responsible governance to function.  THE FREE AUSTRALIA PARTY calls for a vote of no confidence to be raised by every sitting non-Labor member of Parliament, and for the Labor party to place itself back into caretaker mode while this matter is resolved.  Democracy is more important to Australia than the cost of redoing the election, or in moving out of caretaker status for a government which won its position through deceit.
