| Call for public brainstorming session |

Due to the F.R.E.E AUSTRALIA PARTY being the “new kid” on the block we are being swamped with letters and suggestions from desperate residents of South Australia, all of whom are showing an extraordinary interest in finding a solution to the water crisis in which we currently find ourselves. To date the F.R.E.E AUSTRALIA PARTY has waited to a more appropriate time to release its policies, because being such a new party it would not be fitting to speak too soon before we had solidified our position in this public discourse. At a national level the F.R.E.E AUSTRALIA PARTY supports the Bradfield Scheme, which is the idea of turning some of Queensland’s coastal rivers inland. It was first introduced in the 1800’s by the designer of the Sydney Harbour Bridge, Dr J Bradfield. He envisaged diverting water from the coastal northern Queensland Rivers across the Great Dividing Range, into rivers which would supply water for stock and other purposes in inland areas. To supply Adelaide, water would be pumped approximately 800 km south from the Cooper Creek. It is an immense project, but then, so was the Snowy Mountains scheme, which provided employment to many tradesmen throughout Australia. We agree with the Hon. Bob Katter, Federal Minister for Kennedy, that it is a necessary and viable plan, and one that needs to be commenced sooner rather than later. At a time when State Governments can easily spend up to one billion dollars upgrading traffic infrastructure, expense ought not to be a consideration when it comes to ensuring a stable supply of water to the dying River Murray. At a state level we echo the community’s concerns and certainly do not agree with the Rann government’s policy of emptying one lake to fill another, and then when they notice the water going down too far in one of them they come up with an idea to build a huge mound of mud clear across the lake to prevent evaporation. This is nothing more than a band aid on an arterial wound. It will not work. It is a waste of tax payer’s money, a waste of time, a waste of effort. It is a solution which reveals that the Rann government has no serious interest in fixing our states water problems. How can he claim to have a serious interest in solving this crisis when his government can happily spend a billion dollars on bitumen on a road from Port Adelaide? What is the point in wasting money on bitumen when we are experiencing record heat waves of which 40 people died earlier this year, or when the River Murray, Lower Lakes, and dependent wild life are dying? One solution we would like to table to kick off our request for a public brainstorming session, and that of which we demand the Rann government either implement, or tell us why not is to utilise the Royal Australian Navy’s unused bulk carriers to recover the pristine iceberg water from a floating iceberg in the Southern Ocean to pump it into the Lower lakes. Acknowledgements to “Perry” of Strathalbyn for that suggestion. The F.R.E.E AUSTRALIA PARTY represents a grass roots movement of individuals from all walks of life and backgrounds who have become discontented with governance that continually ignores the people it is meant to serve. A grass roots movement which is rising from beneath those who consider themselves our rulers with the goal to restore our constitutional rights to readily accessible water. As a result of this the F.R.E.E AUSTRALIA PARTY is interested in what you the public have to say, and will work to have your voice heard.
